Breakfast with Nana

One of our favorite activities on weekend mornings is to go out for breakfast Bloody Mary's. We like them spicy and in low balls. I'm a big fan of olives and all of the other accoutrements added to my bloody party. Today we met Andy's parents at Oakridge...we had such a fun time eating and drinking but by 1:00 Andy and I were exhausted and took naps while the kids played downstairs.

Headphones

We watch movies on our car TV. Andy and I never wanted to be those parents but we realized that if we set rules to how much we let the kids watch we could teach them that it's a privilege and not a necessity or a right. Well...that's not how it's worked out!!! They fight, they scream, the first thing that Sasha does is say PLAY when we get in the car. Most of the time I let them just because I want to talk on the phone or listen to news (that'll be another post later). OK, I know I've become one of "those" mommy's, who would rather drive in peace and catch up on gossip. Please don't tell Oprah!

Roller Girls Rule

Had the day off from school so Andy and I decided to take the girls to Roller Garden to get their skate on (I just realized I gave this polaroid the wrong title). My girls were really not into it but Lucia had a great time and caught on very quickly...I can see her as a Cali girl growing up in the 70's. I hope that Lola & Sasha will love to skate one day because both Andy and I grew up skating and it was the in lifestyle choice in the 70's and early 80's (our generation). Most of my fondest memories were spent at the roller rink...there were lot's of birthday parties, drop off play dates, and in high school free skate. Lot's of memories!!!!!!!

Fall trees

This is the road to my girlfriends country home. Isn't Minnesota gorgeous in the fall...It really is glorious! People come from all over the country come to see the fall leaves changing. Fall is my favorite season...by October I need a change...I love to bring my wool sweaters, tall boots, and leather. I love the smell in the air and I love the thought of getting ready to hibernate for the winter.

book club...

I read my first book for book club.

It's pretty amazing since I hadn't been motivated to read for a long time. It's not that I don't like to read but I love to blog surf, create, and watch t.v. I wish there was more time to read because I could really get sucked into books like I used to but other things seem to relax me more these days.

I got a Kindle and I can download any book I want any time I want. Andy and I are going to split it and take turns reading our books and newspapers...although what's going to happen when he travels?

Our meeting was a blast. It was 5 other women whom I never knew before which was really great spending time with people who I don't know and speaking on a different level. I made everyone a book mark but of course I didn't take pictures of them...seriously- I need to remember to DOCUMENT!

The book we read was fantastic! It's called Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah. It's about a relationship between two unlikely girls in the 70's, who meet when one of the girls moves next door. We follow their relationship for decades and watch them learn, love, and leave this earth. All the women in the group loved the book and could relate to at least something in this book. It's a great book club read but it's super long, so make sure you start right away. Oh yeah, if you have enough time go to kristinhannah.com and ask Kristin to call you at your book club discussion...she never called us but I registered and asked her to...bummer!

Why can't I have been a big girl in the 70's? I think I would have fit right in!

Sukkah

Sukkot is a joyous occasion (the day of our rejoicing) Jewish holiday which symbolizes the time God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness they inhabited after they were freed from slavery in Egypt. A Sukkah is a temporary hut constructed for use during the week-long Jewish festival of Sukkot. It is topped with branches and often well decorated with autumnal, harvest themes...the sukkah itself symbolizes the frailty and transience of life and its dependence on God.

time will pass me by

most of the time it feels like time is passing by in front of my eyes. that the time is passing by but that i dont know where it goes, or where to look for it. i judge the time by my children. i read the time by the stacks of chores that pile up. i know that soon i will be in a different cycle of life. if i don't get all of it done i will be passed by in a moments time.

GO TO SLEEP

When will they all go to sleep?
It's only the 3rd day of waking up early for school and I got up earlier then I wanted to. I have to take a shower, get the kids lunches ready, get them up and dressed, fed, organized.
It's so much work!!!

It's late
I want to go to sleep...
why don't the kids?

I am not used to moving so quickly so early in the morning-
will I ever be?

♥Marilyn Monroe♥

Today is the day that that Marilyn died 47 years ago. I can't believe that it's been 47 years already-Marily was only 36! The photograph above was the from the last sitting she had with Bert Stern, so I think it's fitting to put it up on the anniversary of her death.

Marilyn was ranked 1999, as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute. She's gorgeous, sexy, and such a mystery.
